New Gnosticism

In response to discussion about the “new Gnosticism,” I am compelled to clarify some choices that I have made. I have chosen the term “immanent occasions” for my blog because of a desire for immanence that is not transcendental but materialist. My readings of Deleuze and Guattari were determinative of my choice. My feeling is that a flow of energy shaping the field of expression has an immanent relation to interlaced forms of words and emergent figures. Some of this stance was developed as counterweight to the ways in which a poetics like Watten’s or Bernstein’s has influenced me. I use metaphors drawn from gnostic readings as blaze marks on the trails that my poetry seeks to identify. I resist any systematization or paradigmatic consonance with gnostic world systems. See:
